Alli's Quilt

. . . is finished! Well, not quite. I still have to take it somewhere to be quilted and then I will have to attach the binding, but the majority of my work is done! So, as promised, here are some pictures . . .
It measures 72"x82" and looks like it might be wide enough for a full-sized bed, even though Alli sleeps on a twin. These next pictures are of a small throw that I made. It was my first quilt that I made from start to finish. It was VERY easy, so good to learn on! And it was small enough that I could quilt it on my own machine, and easy to quilt, since I just sewed straight lines!

I love the fabric on the back almost as much as the front! This is how I display it - on the end of our bed, ready to be used for naps or for watching a movie in bed!

Now I need to get busy on some Christmas presents!

Looks beautiful, Donette! Just like the picture:) What kind of machine are large quilts "quilted" on? I'm not a quilter,so just curious.

Hi Linda! Good question! Larger quilts usually have to be quilted on a "long arm" machine, which is a sewing machine with a large opening between the needle and the side of the machine with the buttons (whatever that's called!). Some quilters own a long arm, otherwise most quilt shops will quilt it for you - for a price!:) I'm new to quilting, so there is no way I can justify purchasing another machine just to quilt. That will have to come after the kids are older and I can convince Dan it is necessary! Oh, and you need a decent workspace to keep everything set up, and I don't have that (yet)!

Hey,"friend"--when are you going to add me to your list of friends to get to know on your blog sidebar??:) Just kidding--I know you're busy-two little ones, homeschooling, homekeeping, making quilts,- when to you sleep?

Alli's quilt is beautiful, and I really love the back of that fabric, too.

Beautiful job on the quilt and throw! I've always admired people who can quilt, though I haven't tried it myself.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Black. In fact we are going to gut our bedroom this winter and everything is in need of change. Our current quilt has small tears all over. At Bed Bath and Beyond this week I spotted a beautiful Black and Cream Quilt. ..that I'm debating.

I'd LOVE to learn to quilt someday. I don't know how to sew....so that is my big stumbling block.

Kudos! They both look great!
